Trip Advice

The Ruhrgebiet, also known as the Ruhrpott or the Revier, is a region in Germany with great cultural and historical significance. It is home to a rich industrial heritage, with its mining of hard coal and iron ore deposits playing a pivotal role in the country’s industrialization. Nowadays, the region has transformed into a vibrant and diverse cultural destination. Visitors to the Ruhrgebiet can explore its UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as The Iron Bridge Gorge Site and the Zollverein Coal Mine Industrial Complex in Essen. These sites offer a glimpse into the region’s industrial past, with preserved buildings and unique infrastructure.

Moreover, the Ruhrgebiet is not just about history and industry. It is also a hub for arts and creativity, with numerous art galleries, museums, and theatres scattered throughout the region. The western part around Mülheim invites visitors to immerse themselves in the beautiful landscape of the Ruhr River and experience outdoor activities such as hiking, cycling, and boating. As destinations for a short trip or a more extended vacation, the cities of Duisburg, Essen, and Dortmund offer a wide range of attractions, including lively markets, delicious cuisine, and vibrant nightlife. The Ruhrgebiet region has successfully transformed itself from an industrial powerhouse to a cultural and tourist destination.

The Ruhrtourismus GmbH built a platform and service to present a large variety of cultural activities as possible. We invite you to extend your stay and breathe in the unique atmosphere of the region around our hometown.
